Today we learned about the three minds: (1) rational mind (2) emotional mind and (3) the wise mind. This is a DBT skill. With mindfulness focusing on the present moment can be met with challenges, while assessing what you’re doing and what’s happening.

By breaking up our understanding of the mind, we can analyze how rationally we rely on the past at times to make decisions and also explore the ways our emotions rule our minds and interfere with our ability to think logically, sometimes missing facts. The wise mind is able to both interpret facts and emotions “able to accept your emotions while also taking into account the facts of the situation.” [1]
The rational mind “bases its decisions on facts, evidence, and what worked in the past.” [2] Whereas the emotional mind may be triggered by “Certain people, places, or events.” [3] The ideal state is called the wise mind, whereby “an individual takes into account BOTH their Rational and Emotional minds when making decisions and taking action.” [4] The wise mind is able to bridge the gap both processing emotions while able to weigh the facts in acceptance and harmony.
