Getting Back to Normal …

We all go through this, when we just want to get back to normal. The most frustrating part of not feeling well, is trying to communicate how we are feeling and not push ourselves further away from our goals in life. How to get help, and how to know when to just sit with things. Learn to take it easy and not be too hard on yourself. You have to learn how to be patient with yourself, you can’t always expect overnight change. Even though that’s what we want. Whatever happened to the days when we could just snap out of it, and by the next day be completely fine. That’s resiliency, when things don’t stick, when things don’t stay, and when we can automatically get back to normal, so lets get back to that version of ourselves.

According to one article in Forbes, when our minds are wandering is when we are most likely to get stuck in a bad mood, therefore the solution to getting out of a bad mood would be to distract ourselves, “Snap out of it and focus your attention elsewhere.” [1] Try to stay focused, begin each day with a gratitude list, have a plan at the outset of each day, write a list of things you want to get done, stick to a calendar. When you’re not getting done what needs to get done, is when we are more likely to be hard on ourselves. “Use a journal and to-do list to keep track of your ideas. If you dedicate a specific time each day for planning, problem-solving, and even worrying, you’ll be less likely to be distracted by those mental activities at other times of the day.” [2]

“Change begins within” [3] if you want to be a more present person, you will have to start focusing less on what you don’t have control over, news, worry, environment, weather, all the extremes in life, and start focusing on what you do have control over, your feelings, what you’re doing, what you’re thinking, and where you’re headed. You don’t have to stay thinking about anything that is not serving your best interests, it’s okay to care, and that also means that in caring you don’t have to get broken down and all bent out of shape worrying either, we deserve an opportunity to come back center and get back to normal.

Recently I’ve been adjusting to new meds, and being off the medication adderrall, and Ive been proud of my progress so far. Overcoming a cold at the moment, I’m making progress, and attending a PHP Partial Hospitalization Program 9-3:30pm everyday for a month. I’m in the middle of a huge commitment and treatment plan dedicated to getting stronger and feeling better. I’ve been through so much, and I know that this time around, I hope to get through most of my battles in life, when it comes to voices and negativity. I know that this chapter in life will be challenging, and I just need to keep going and not give up.
