Know Your Calm ….

Know Your Calm ….

Recently I’ve been really calm adjusting to new meds, Vyvanse and attending AA meetings everyday via zoom I’m in the middle of my 90 and 90, that’s 90 AA meetings in 90 days. To jump start my sobriety, I initially got sober 04/02/2017 but recently due to stress went back out again, meaning going to the bars being social. I’ll have to find other ways to be social and be around people. Also going through a recent breakup was dating an ex until 4th of July and haven’t seen him since. We talked briefly in August while in the hospital so that’s been difficult not talking to him and getting my life organized.

Know your calm, while in treatment we did a lot of meditation. So that’s become a huge part of my recovery this time around, have always been a huge fan of calm app. It’s been said “Cultivating a more restful, relaxed state of mind doesn’t mean we’ll drown under all our responsibilities.” [1] I’m just starting to feel better, I know in previous posts I would complain about all the things I’ve been through feeling challenged, but I’m just starting to find balance again without being too hard on myself and giving up.

Being calm is key to leadership. Given all the goals and memberships I have you would think that I wouldn’t struggle with calm, confidence, and self esteem but I do. I guess to be a better writer it would be in my best interests to get better at this remaining calm. “Having the ability to remain calm under all circumstances is a powerful tool to have in your management toolbox. It will inspire your people to trust you more while at the same time improving your ability to make better decisions and think more clearly under pressure.” [2]

I’m also making exercise a big part of my new routine. While meds can be used to help with anxiety, stress, and sleep it’s something I can do for myself almost everyday to feel good. “Physical activity affects the nervous system in ways that reduce stress. Just 30 minutes per day of walking can help boost your mood.” [3]

Remember to breathe, “Taking a moment to yourself to recenter and regroup before continuing on can help you regain your focus.” [4] Next on my to do list is to quit smoking I was able to stop smoking for 11 days in the hospital so it can be done, and no I will not be switching to a vape.

I hope this article inspires you to find your calm and encourages you to take good care of yourself health too. Whether that’s setting fitness goals, facing mental health challenges, or simply staying focused and calm. I know I’ve been through a lot and hope that by sharing you don’t give up either.
