You don’t have to be perfect. Look at me hospitalized August put on a 5150 hold, twice and again in October then sent to residential for 22 days, PHP, then rehab for 8 days and now in sober living. No matter how you get there, get there and be proud. I’m proud to say I’m functioning off adderrall and sober now my sober date is 11/29/23.
According to Jennifer Healey, “You don’t need to be perfect to live the kind of life you came here to live. You just need to be honest with yourself about what matters to you and then build the courage to create your life from that passionate base.” [1] And that’s so true you are here now to live this life and even when you can’t figure it out for yourself whether for medical reasons or suffering from addictions there are programs and steps you can take to find your sense of normalcy in it all. Don’t be hard on yourself. You get today and sometimes that’s all you can focus on. Take it one day at a time even if you can’t plan ahead. I know from experience sometimes the planning phases and goal setting is the hardest part about moving forward and sometimes you just need to get well first to do it all. So pace yourself.
A great statement from Storyteller is, “You may not be able to pursue perfection or near perfection. You may not be able to get everything in your life to line up the way you want it to. You may not even be able to make sense of everything in the past that you could wish you could change. But you can make the choice to see: you are whole.” [2] —I really like this statement, just keep going even if you’re a mess pick up the remaining pieces of your life and start anywhere trying to put yourself back together again. Even if it’s not a straight line. Accept yourself for who you are.
You have you be proud of yourself for recognizing what needs work and for working up the courage to ask for help when help is needed, you don’t have to go along this journey in life alone. So much about change is riddled with fear, what will others think, what will happen? Stop worrying so much about the past or what others think, what can you do now to get better. You got this. Stay disciplined in your efforts to regroup, continue to educate yourself, ask good questions, log your progress, keep a journal, do whatever it takes to put yourself back together again, perfect or not.
