It’s important to think positively of yourself, not only will you feel good practicing self-care, but it can have many personal benefits. Having “high self-esteem” means “having positive personal regard [and it] can be the difference between feeling good” and motivates you to take better care of yourself. The tendency when we are not feeling good is to slack on taking better care of ourselves. It is true that having high self-esteem “is vital to a successful, happy life.” [1]
So believe in yourself, value yourself, and be your own cheerleader. It has been said that not until we love ourselves, can we fully love another person. (verywellmind.com). Self-esteem is more than just simply liking yourself, its having a positive self-concept, it’s respecting and admiring ourselves, and it means “believing in your capability (to learn achieve, and contribute to the world).” [2]
When we think of self-esteem we think of someone who has positive sense of self-worth. When you value yourself, its important to also remember to keep in mind that how you value yourself is related to how others feel about you too. So to treat others as you wish to be treated. And when you value yourself, and when others value you, this can either boost or lower your self-esteem, if not. It has been said that “a person’s self-esteem is made up of your view of all the things that define you as a person, including your personality, accomplishments, talents, capabilities, background, experiences, relationships, and physical body, as well as how you perceive others see you.” [3]
A person’s with high self-esteem is also someone who is able to maintain a sense of self-worth, and that their positive thoughts outweigh their negative thoughts. High self-esteem is like a frame of mind that let’s you “feel good about yourself and your life.” It can also help you to understand your place in life, so that you don’t take things personally, able to root for others, not just yourself, and find your place in the world. Life is so much better when you don’t take things personally and overly reactive. Allowing you to put things in perspective no matter what.
