By the time it’s no longer serving you to speak up on a topic by then you’ve already tied your shoes into a knot just getting the conversation going. Ever feel stuck? It’s not your fault. Sometimes we can’t help ourselves but to defend ourselves but what happens when that only makes things worse. Just listen. You can’t always get through to everyone on subjects. “One of the greatest sources of hurt is holding on to things that are trying to let go of us. The harder we hold on, the more it hurts.” [1] Sometimes we have to just give up on subjects when it’s no longer serving to help or contribute in a way all can benefit.
What is the meaning of surrender? “Every one of us at some point encounters a situation that rocks the foundation of who we are and what we think we can bear—something that pushes us past our limits.” [2] Admitting when we’re wrong is high up on the list of ways our words get twisted around and backfire on us. It’s like with some people you just can’t win. Don’t worry it’s not your fault. Not all of us are equipped for battles in words in life we aren’t always ready swinging when prompted so don’t let these types of losses get to you. Hold your head high right or wrong you can do this. You don’t have to surrender to everytime you lose an argument with someone sometimes there’s give or take and that can be very frustrating and painful.
To surrender means ““to stop fighting and admit defeat” and “If you surrender to an experience or emotion, you stop trying to prevent or control it.” [3]
For example, “our minds try to control everything … Our minds will fight with, reject, ignore, push against, and keep maneuvering to change those situations that we don’t want.” [4] So how do we regain control when we feel we have lost control? By letting it go. Letting it go doesn’t mean we are surrendering or losing a fight it means we stop hurting ourselves or others over it, it’s okay to give up amidst chaos. Instead you are “taking time for yourself are key to helping you stay content and focused on what matters most,” you! [5]
