Some of the best conversations I have is when another shares their wisdom with me. You know more than you think, doesn’t matter what age you are, everyone’s perspective is of value these days. You would never guess anyone’s intelligence nowadays people are brighter than you think. Never judge a book by its cover.
In one article by Forbes, Joe Hudson has an interesting thesis on wisdom using AI works with research teams at OpenAI, Anthropic, and DeepMind. He describes wisdom as enabling us to differentiate between “self-knowledge means knowing what you don’t know, where your judgment is reliable, and where you are likely to be fooled.” By “improving our analytical reasoning … he is building the skill of knowing.” [1]
Gary Klein highlights “recognition-primed decision making” as an underlying quality of a desire for clarity balanced by a willingness to change. He describes wisdom as a “decision-quality.” AI is building structured decision review practices” to aide us in “the ability to process information.” However “human intelligence includes things that current AI cannot do.” [2]
Wisdom requires that we rely less on what you know which can have cognitive bias and learn to follow your heart too. “When people tuned into their hearts … they tended to make better decisions.” Don’t be afraid to talk to others, much is learned through the sharing of wisdom to broaden our perspectives in life, by appreciating others perspectives. It’s important to note that “What may seem like obvious truth to you, may be very different for others.” [3]
“In a world fraught with challenge, polarization and controversy, wise reasoning is a critical skill.” Broadening our perspectives improves better “judgement when things get intense.” It can help you to stay grounded. By recognizing the limits of your own knowledge and reminding yourself you don’t have all the answers. Wisdom is also found in a willingness to admit mistakes and change your point of view when you have new information.” [4]
Wisdom is best when it takes on multiple points of view in order to find the best course of decision making.” Occurring when we “seek to understand others and value the opinions of others which may be different.” [5] Learn to embrace uncertainty, remind yourself that “ you have the skills, resilience and wisdom to make the best decisions for today and in the future [6]
