Handling Pressure …

Handling pressure is no easy task, I say task, because it seems like when the pressure hits its usually about something you need to do for yourself, or something that someone wants you to do for them. In a working environment, its easy to separate yourself personally from that type of pressure, such as meeting a deadline, or staying motivated to reach a professional goal. There are all types of pressures, the worst pressure, to me, is romantic pressure, that means either being ready or not ready to move forward, and the road that you take in order to be in a better place in life, maybe this is something more common to 30 year olds, settling down, finding love, and figuring out your future, to me this is something you don’t need to worry about until it happens and the right people come along in life, its hard to future plan when you’re single and have no one to plan your future with, and that’s okay, take it one day at a time, one relationship at a time, and go with the flow, this is why they tell you to live for the moment, especially during phases in life. Here are a few tips for managing pressure:

  1. Learn how to separate yourself from the feeling of pressure, whether that’s through prayer or meditation, find a way to take yourself out of a feeling.
  2. Don’t freeze, the tendency is when things become too much, we get too little done, and spend more time ruminating than we do completing the task at hand.
  3. Don’t future trip, if there is something that you want in life, then go out there and get it, get trained, get experience, put yourself out there, you wont know unless you try.
  4. Get help if needed, you don’t have to do everything alone, a little feedback goes a long way, that should start first before you go out there seeking acceptances from others.
  5. Don’t get stuck people pleasing, sometimes people won’t hear you out, and that’s okay, some people only hear what they want to hear, so until you agree or do what they want you wont make them happy or content with where you are in life, and that’s okay.
  6. Learn to be flexible, learn how to compromise, learn how to put yourself in the shoes of another, learn how to pace yourself, being happy is a priority and make it one.
  7. Stay away from drama! Its all about in how you react to others, when your temperament is under control, and by what you have to say not influence anyone to think less of you, that’s one less thing to worry about, have some self-control,
  8. Stay awake, whether that’s a mental health issue clouding your judgment, or an addiction a feeling your stuck chasing in life, recognize what your needs are, and prioritize your time to meeting those needs.
  9. Be vigilant, know when to take breaks, don’t be defensive, be aware, sometimes the most progress is made when we stay organized, and observant, don’t ignore people.

Where do we go from here? Write your list of triggers, write your list of remedies, and write your list of questions, its always okay to get help, especially during moments when you are having trouble staying focused and getting going, that’s totally normal to have these intermittent phases of progress, it’s an uphill battle sometimes overcoming any feeling that leaves you feeling tired or unmotivated, that’s pressure, whether or not it comes in the form of stress, recognize what it is that is causing you to have low tolerance of yourself or others, and try not to situate yourself, so you end up isolated, instead of being proactive problem solving. We work and function best when we are in the moment, and to me that’s problem solving, doing something for yourself, that helps you to achieve later goals in life, and if it starts with a feeling of being capable, then it will be based on what you are presently doing for yourself, that becomes the feeling that gets you from point A to point B, in overcoming a hurdle in life.
