How to stay motivated ….

Motivation doesn’t just come from within it takes small actionable steps daily to improve upon what you have going for you in life. Don’t expect immediate results here’s where delayed gratification comes into play. When we focus on delayed gratification we “resist immediate, smaller rewards to gain more significant, long-term benefits.” [1] So set long term goals as a motivating factor for doing what you need to do to get there.

When we put the work in without breaking our backs trying to get from point A to point B there will be a moment if not now then at sometime in the future when you can look back and see how far you’ve come. We’re not always ready for an assessment or critique on our progress always keep things positive don’t worry others with your troubles. Sure they want to know how you’re doing but it’s not easy to respond to a person in distress be someone approachable you will thrive on constant contacts and communications more than you will simply venting about your day or your life as you see it. People think more highly of you than you think. So represent yourself well especially when it comes to sharing about yourself and what you’re presently going through, to get the support you need.

It’s usually the most positive hardworking people that don’t always have a self perception that matches the reality of who they are. “Negative self-talk often creates harmful, inaccurate, and self-fulfilling prophecies, true self-esteem involves a balanced view that acknowledges [your] strengths.” [2] It can be occur through reminders from close friends and family that we can realize our potential and correct any mistakes along the way. Deflecting attention away from the negative by focusing on the positive with help from others!

It’s hard to move forward when you’re feeling defeated, things can turn around maybe even the next day it’s all a matter of time before you realize your potential. So take small steps if necessary and gradually you will be more equipped to take on challenges in life. Your perception of yourself will improve the less you isolate and the more you connect with others reminding you of yourself value and serving as a positive reference of you to help you keep going in life. Don’t give up!
