Don’t forget to be patient …

Patience can improve our lives. In the blink of an eye we can go from ruminating away all the what ifs and arrive at a better brighter place. It’s all about what we allocate time to, worry or taking proactive steps moving forward that bring us closer to our goals in life. Being patient has many mental health benefits, that set you up for success, being able to regulate emotions and helps to reduce negative thoughts. When we are being patient we are less likely to stress about the little things in life, and “stop and take a moment to look around while thinking about the bigger picture.” [1]

According to betterhelp.com, “Patience is the ability to remain calm … in the face of frustration, adversity, or waiting. [Its] trainable skill that reduces stress, bolsters emotional resilience, and strengthens relationships.” [2] The effort is worth it however challenging it can be to cultivate patience, you can do this!

“Patience is your ability to wait without becoming annoyed, upset, or angry. It’s when you exercise self-control rather than lashing out and complaining.” [3] It’s all about how you internalize your emotions and process what it is you’re going through in life. How are you interpreting a situation, take a moment to step back, and reassess things, thinking things over.

Give yourself a moment of pause every now and then. Being patient helps keep you to be strong making you “better equipped to deal with stressful and challenging moments in life [to improve] your overall mental health and well being.” [4] Developing patience involves shifting from being reactive to being more presently aware in the moment through mindfulness.” [5] When your patient you learn to “put on the brakes” and respond rather than react.
